Streaking

The Jacksonville Jaguars played a great game in every aspect of it except one, turnovers. They could not stop the Titans from making big plays off of them. David Garrard threw 3 seperate interceptions which where returned 61, 83, and 92 yards by 3 different Titans. Although Vince Young completed only 8 passes for a total of 98 yards the defense was setting franchise records with 370 yards for the game. Starting the season at 0-5 the titans have won 77% of thier last 9 games and now have an unrealistic slim shot at the playoffs. Every peice must fall into place for them at this point, even the ones they cannot control. They need to keep in the winning mindframe for this Sunday's game against The Buffalo Bills. You cannot count on the other teams to make mistakes letting your defense work for your scoring.

If you missed last Sunday's T-n-T match up then you need to find out which of your friends recorded it. The Tennessee Titans came back from 8 points down against The Houston Texans to tying up this game for some overtime. Once again this Houston Native and former UT star quarterback showed the Texans up by running a 36 year Quarterback sneak for the touchdown and the win. Vince could not have been happier and he let it shine as he jumped into the sea of burnt-orange clad fans. The crowd had been cheering for the Texans for most of the game but when Vince, who grew up within miles of the Reliant Stadium in Southwest Houston, ran the touchdown in, sealing the game for the Titans, the crowd exploded into cheers, whistles, and clapping hands.

The Texans, at many's dismay, passed on Vince Young in the first pick of the draft in favor of defensive end Mario Williams because the team already had quarterback David Carr. I personally feel sport teams should consist of players that live in the area of the team. Then it really is a region to region rivalry instead of a great Texas player having to show his stuff in Tennessee. Great job Vince and we all miss ya down here.

Comeback Kids

The Indianapolis Colts have defeated The Tennessee Titans in 8 straight games. This time the Colts needed a win over the Titans to clinch the division for a club record of four years. During the first 20 minutes of the game it seemed that was likely as the Colts took a commanding lead. But Peyton Manning got intercepted 2 seperate times while Vince Young threw for 2 touchdowns which started the boys on a comeback not quite as large as against the New York Giants, but a comeback none the less. The stop came when, at 1st and goal, the Colts could not pull together a TD. The big news however was kicker Rob Birionas who, with the wind at his back, kicked a 60 yard field goal, the longest of his career. Although a play-off shot is non-existant, I see nothing but greatness comign from The Tennesee Titans for the rest of the season.

The Tennessee Titans were scoreless for more than 50 of the 60 minutes of Sunday's game against the New York Giants. With less than 10 minutes to go and a defecit of 21 points, the Tennessee Titans rookie quarterback Vince Young, formerly of the University of Texas Longhorns, led his team to 3 touchdowns on 3 consecutive drives. Rob Bironas came through with 6 seconds left to hit a 49 yard field goal pushing the Titans over the top. It was the largest comeback in NFL history to be led by a rookie QB. GO VINCE! The Tennessee Titans look to keep this style of play going when they face off against the Indianapolis Colts again. On October 8th the Colts came back in the 4th quarter to win over the Titans winning thier seventh consecutive game at the RCA dome. With both teams fresh off big wins, everyone on the field will be in the points scoring pass blocking mindset.

Of course, genuine sports fans don’t want to win because the other team’s star gets hurt, but feeling bad about the Eagles’ starting quarterback Donovan McNabb’s torn knee ligament wouldn’t have gotten him back in the game. In fact, after his surgery, he’ll likely need eight months or more to recover. Meanwhile, Philly and Tennessee had over half a game to finish. So Vince Young and the Titans did. Travis Henry chipped in a sweet 70-yard TD run and Pacman Jones scored on a 90-yard punt return that was a thing of beauty! So we ended up 31-13 and added a third notch in the win column for 2006.

Gregg Easterbrook, who writes for ESPN's website in the guise of the Tuesday Morning Quarterback, included one of Vince Young's moves in the game against the Baltimore Ravens as a "Sweet Play of teh Week." It was when about-to-be-tackled Vince tossed the ball laterally to Bo Scaife, who scurried down the field for a TD.

In the same column, the TMQ had one other mention of the Tennessee Titans, something we all can ponder...the Denver Broncos, now 7and 2, have scored exactly 12 more points this season than the Titans, who are 2 and 7.

David Garrardian?

David Garrard got hit, and hit hard on Sunday against the Titans. Twice during the game he was double sacked. I cannot imagine what it must feel like to have two 300 pound linemen ripping you to the ground. Even still he, on his second start this season, took the Jaguars to a 37-7 victory over the juggernauts. Byron Leftwich, the Jaguars normal starting quarterback, was not even dressed out on gameday after declaring himself ready to play earlier in the week. Leftwich told Coach Jack Del Rio he was ready to play despite a sore ankle 3 weeks ago in Houston. The team lost that game and Leftwich has been benched ever since. Thats what happens when you have 2 great quarterbacks.
Vince Young and the Titans did not fare so well. Young threw 3 interceptions everyone ending in points for the Jags. Finally with 3:00 left in the game Young connected a 32 yard TD pass to Drew Bennet avoicing the shut out. The highlight for the Titans was after one of Youngs interception throws. He shoved the receiver out of bounds avoiding the Jaguars tacking on yet another touchdown forcing them to settle for a field goal instead. Another Titan great, Craig Hentrich booted a 73 yard punt, the second longest of his career being beaten only by a 78 yarder he pulled off way back in the year 2000. Could I have been more wrong with my last blog. I should have never lost the faith. The Titans celebrate thier win over houston last Sunday but even greater is the fact that this is the first time in 39 games that the team has won 2 in a row. Looks like Vince Young might have been a good choice. The Texans have to be kicking themselves for not taking him. Even after all the Houston public support on the move. There were even several foundations set up to raise the money to get Vince on the team. I think he's doing allright, right where he is. Stomping the Texans.

It's time, It's time. Time for the Titans to face off against the city that shunned them. Both teams are freshly rested off of a bye week but the Titans will have to play harder than ever to take home a win even with the home crowd. The Titans season this far has been pitiful and the team has not won consecutive games since 2003. I think David Carr and crew is going to bring pain from Houston along with them. Did you ever think you would hear someone say that? I wonder how Vince Young feels about this game coming fresh from Austin as the Longhorns Quarterback, and being originally from Houston the home for the Texans at Reliant Stadium.

We already welcomed you to the NFL, Vince, but now we can finally welcome you to the winner's circle! Nice to have our 25-22 victory be over the Washington Redskins, who clearly weren't expecting it.

The team got several noteable plays including but not limited to Brandon Jones's first TD of the season while Pacman Jones forced the first fumble of his career. Casey Cramer pulled off a rarely seen play when he blocked Derrick Frost's punt in the third quarter resulting in a safety. Travis Henry went out for the 178 yards rushing, a career best - not to mention Rob Bironas who put it all together with that game winning 3rd field goal! Way to go, all y'all!

The Tennessee Titans showed thier spirit on Sunday in thier match against the Indianapolis Colts Sunday in The RCA Dome. Jeff Fisher's team controlled the ground for a good portion of the game rushing for a season high of 214 yards. Travis henry claimed 123 of those himself, his firt 100 yard game since joining the team. Thier effort was not enough in the end as Peyton manning landed a 2 yard pass to Reggie Wayne with 5 minutes left on the clock. Final score Colts win 14-13. Better luck next time Titans.

True Southern Gentlemen

These true southern gentlemen have been playing south of the Mason-Dixon line since 1960 when the team originated in Houston, Texas with Head Coach Lou Rymkus as the houston Oilers. I remember going to football games with my father and friends shouting Luv Ya Blue! That is until 1996 when after a few bad seasons and lackluster fan support Bud Adams made the decision to break the lease on the Houston Astrodome one year early and move the team from The Bayou City to The Music City of Nashville. The team kept the Oilers name for one year during the '97/'98 season, after which it was changed to the Titans. Although we Texans now have the Texans, I will always Luv Ya Blue!

But, hey, he is young. And the jump from the NCAA to the NFL is a huge one for everybody. I was very happy for a very little while, when Vince had Tennessee up 3-0. Before the sacks, the interceptions, and the fumble took their toll. Like I said, he’s young. And we were up against the Dallas Cowboys, who are after all somewhat more seasoned.

Coach Fisher says he's keeping Young as starting QB for awhile, and that's fine with me. I thingk he'll learn a lot being at the helm, and one of these days we'll start putting some numbers in the wn column.

When you’ve only won 4 games it’s easy to put a lot of pressure on your new players. But hey, that’s their job. Like everyone else I’m very excited about the emergence of Longhorn Vince Young as a QB for us Tennessee Titans. I also predict good things from our two new boys from Utah, Spencer Toone and Quinton Ganther. I’ve been waiting here in Memphis a long time for a draft with such promise and such talent.

Drafting Vince Young, who was a do-it-all QB for the Texas Longhorns, was exciting news. From what I've heard about Vince, he 'll add a positive note to our games even if his first role is watching Billy Volek do the quarterbacking for awhile. We also got some seasoned players, and I am impressed with where they'r coming from. I want tickets to go see what David Givens, David Thornton and Chris Hope do for the Titans, and I think it helps that coming from the Patriots, the Colts, and the Steelers, they have all got recent experience of what winning feels like.

I'm past griping about corporate entities slapping their names onto everything in sports. I don't like it, but I'm resigned to it, since it is actually more the rule than the exception. Some of it, like the Peach Bowl turning into the Chik-fil-A Bowl, bugs me a lot. But the Tennesse Titans' home was pretty generic-sounding as "the Coliseum," so I'll still want tickets even if it is now LP Field. The only thing I'm worried about is that names that are initials seem to inspire misinterpretation...so Titans--do not end up in Last Place.

Albert Haynesworth, Tennessee Titans defensive tackle, was charged with reckless endangerment for allegedly running a car off the road. The player turned himself in on the charges. He was seen by the victims of his dangerous driving and was reported to police after the incident occurred. It is sad to see a pro athlete act like he is above the law. Actually he was acting like a complete idiot and he probably doesn’t see what a loser he really is. It’s sad that he is out there giving the Titans a bad name.

It is good to see the Tennessee Titans giving back to the community. I read today about how some of the players are visiting soldiers who have returned from Iraq injured. As much as I don’t support the war, I worry still about our men and women of the service. Little Bella Bolla is the newest edition to my family. She is a Calico kitten of seven months. Her new favorite trick is bag jumping. Bella will jump inside paper bags, empty or full, and rattle around in them popping up to bite the edge of the bag every once in a while. I’ve got three pictures of it on my phone and two on the PC. I’m not a techno-geek pet owner until I transfer the shots to my Ipod so don’t get any ideas.

Matt Leinart gets a Taste of the Big-Time

I was reading a story on the Tenessee Titans official web site about Matt Leinart from the USC Trojans. He took a trip to Detroit to learn what Super Bowl week is all about and see all the hype and media frenzy that surrounds the NFL’s biggest game all season. He should go high in the draft this year and I envy the lucky team that picks up a gem like Matt Leinart.

Let’s face it. The fact is Billy Volek has a chance to be a potential NFL starter. When McNair went down this past season Volek did a nice job stepping up. After taking over in game four, Volek showed us what he is capable of good and bad. If McNair comes back healthy I would expect Volek to seek a trade. After getting a taste of being the signal caller Volek wants to take the reins for a team of his own.

Injuries

TE Ben Troupe fractured the fifth metatarsal during a mini-camp session to apply some more stress to the Titans. The tight end had been doing really well during this offseason and had actually gained some weight (about 10-12 pounds). Now, the Titans will be looking to find someone to fill the spot in case Troupe will not be ready to start.

On top of this, RB Chris Brown will be wearing a cast for the next several weeks on account of breaking his hand; not all that great considering he will not be able to work on his ball handling whatsoever.

Swedish Kicker

Ola Kimrin, former native of Sweden, has joined the ranks of the Tennessee Titans. He played previously with the Washington Redskins, where he was 6 for 10 on field goals. In training camp with the Denver Broncos Kimrin launched a 65-yard field goal during a preseason game, but was not drafted by the team on account of no necessity for a kicker.

Kimrin starts as the leading kicker for the Titans. Not only does this solidify his position, if anyone else is added, they have to compete with him for his position. Kimrin participated in three seasons with NFL Europe and went to training camp with Denver, Dallas and Washington.

A healthy Steve McNair is practicing this week as Titans veterans and rookies are joined together for three days of minicamp at Baptist Sports Park. McNair says he feels great and is in excellent shape following surgery to repair his sternum in December. "I wanted to get myself into the best shape this off-season," McNair said. "The only way I can stay healthy is to get my body fit by working out. It feels good to be back on the field. It's been fun, and that's how we want to make it this season."

Pac-man and Volek

Billy Volek, the backup quarterback for the Titans, just underwent surgery on his shoulder recently. It should not be detrimental to his recovery. Volek became McNair’s primary backup in 2004 when he had to have surgery on a lacerated spleen. During his junior and senior years, Volek was currently attending Fresno State where David Carr was his back-up.

Adam “Pac-man” Jones was seen limping off the field in the middle of practice recently. The team took him off for the day for fear of over stressing the athlete, but apparently he is still good to go.

CB Tony Beckham isn't going to give up his job to first-round pick Adam "Pacman" Jones without a fight. With Andre Woolfolk expected to start on one side, Beckham and Jones will compete on the other side, though Jones could shift inside and play in the slot. Despite playing at the end of last season, Beckham just recently reached 100 percent in his recovery from knee surgery last offseason. He is a good athlete with long arms, and has improved his technique in recent years. . . .

G Jacob Bell is still recovering from January's ACL surgery and might not be ready for training camp. Bell stepped in and played well at left guard for Zach Piller last season, but the team wants him to compete for the right tackle spot that became open when Fred Miller was released. Bell has experience on the right side from his college days, and the team thinks he's tackle material because of his athleticism, and because he doesn't get rattled in the heat of the competition. If Bell is not ready, one of the team's rookie draft picks, either Michael Roos or David Stewart, will start on the right side.

Adam Jones

The Tennessee Titans addressed many issues throughout the latest draft, but their top straining issue was dealt with during the first round. Samari Rolle and Andre Dyson were lost to the team through free agency. This left a big gap in cornerback that Adam “Pac-Man” Jones is looking forward to filling.

Jones hails from West Virginia where he led with tackles with a whopping 76 in 2004. Contributing to 36 games, Jones ended his stint in West Virginia with 201 career tackles, 22 pass breakups, and 8 interceptions.

The Titans were smiling on Sunday after addressing all of their major needs in the 2005 NFL Draft. They made Adam "PacMan" Jones, a big-play cornerback out of West Virginia, the first defensive player selected Saturday with the sixth overall pick. Morlon Greenwood came over to America back when he was an 11-year old. Now, after 16 years of living in the United States, Greenwood is being sworn in as an American citizen in Miami.

Greenwood spent the last four seasons playing for the Miami Dolphins. He began his sporting career more interested in soccer than football, but transitioned during high school and has not looked back.

Greenwood was signed to the Titans as an unrestricted free agent.

It doesn't want to have to reach for a player at a need position -- cornerback, wideout and offensive tackle -- and G.M. Floyd Reese never can seem to get enough picks. Arkansas' Matt Jones intrigues the club. He's projected to play wide receiver in the NFL after playing quarterback in college, so he's something of an unknown. But the Titans think he's special and want to grab him before another team does. The question is: Will he be available when they pick in the second round? The Titans need to pick well to be successful in 2005. The team has a thin roster and little salary cap room, so look for it to fill its most glaring holes in the draft and sign free agents after June 1 to solve other needs.

McNair is Back

Steve McNair has officially decided to come back for another season with the Tennessee Titans. This brings about the 11th season for McNair.

“After talking with my family, my doctors, the trainers and coach Fisher, I am excited about coming back to play this season. I feel good physically. My sternum is healing, I'm in good shape, I haven’t had any problems throwing and I expect to participate in some of the upcoming mini-camps. I look forward to the season, being a leader for some of the younger guys, and getting back to winning football games.”

McNair has been healing up from a surgery that was grafting bone from his right hip to his sternum. But, he is healed up and ready to put out another stellar year. McNair passed for 1,343 yards with eight touchdowns even though battling with his hip.

S Justin Sandy has been cleared to run and is on track to be ready for training camp after fracturing his left foot on November 29 in a game against the Jaguars. Sandy (6-0, 214) is a tough, physical player, but he lacks some instincts and cover skills. The team likes him because he's shown he is eager to learn. While Sandy doesn't have great speed, he does have a burst that allows him to make plays. Sandy won't be a starter on defense, but he has a chance to make an impact on special teams in 2005.

McNair Football Camp

June 2nd and 3rd at Goodpasture Christian School, Steve McNair will be holding his football camp. The camp is held in Madison Tennessee and is offered to boys between the ages of 7-16. This is a great opportunity for young, interested athletes to come and learn from the best. Steve McNair, along with a few Titan teammates, is going out to show these kids some tricks of the trade and hopefully advance young minds into pursuing their dreams.

The Titans haven't drafted an offensive lineman on the first day of the draft since 1999 (G Zach Piller, third round), and you have to go all the way back to 1993 to find the last time they used a first-round pick on an offensive tackle (Brad Hopkins). Instead, the team has drafted linemen in the second day and turned them over to offensive line coach Mike Munchak, who has developed players like G Benji Olson and C Justin Hartwig into dependable starters. But the Titans now have a hole at RT following the release of Fred Miller, and his replacement -- or Hopkins' eventual replacement -- could come out of this year's draft class. Florida State's Alex Barron, Oklahoma's Jammal Brown and Washington's Khalif Barnes are all top-notch prospects the team might consider.

Returning Players

After having many players on the injured list, Tennessee is looking forward to having a more solid 2005 team that had a few holes in 2004. One of these holes was Tank Williams. Strong safety Williams suffered a season-ending knee injury in a game against the Chicago Bears.

After ruining his ACL, Williams has been steadily recovering knowing that he will be back in time for the 2005 season. With other players rehabilitating along, Williams has spent a decent potion of his off-season at the Baptist Sports Park.

“We’re going through a steady process and there’s a lot of guys over here doing pretty much the same thing as myself, so I have some people to work with. It’s coming along well. I haven’t had any setbacks. It’s looking good for me to be able to come back next season.”

Before his injury, Williams was well underway to create a career season. Hopefully, he will come back rested and ready to play.

Tyrone Calico

After a very long span of rehabilitation, the Tennessee Titans wide receiver Tyrone Calico looks like he is going to be back. Calico missed practically all of last season due to injuries sustained to both knees, but he is looking at it positively and should be back and ready for action during July’s training.

“I think it’s going as planned right now. It’s month five and I’m running. Things are going pretty smooth right now. I’ll definitely be back for training camp. That will probably be around 10 months since my surgery, so I think I’ll be ready for camp.”

Calico’s rookie year he posted 18 catches for 297 yards and four touchdowns. After his rookie year, he took a hit during a preseason game from Roy Williams and wound up missing most of the next year.

Calico stacks up impressive numbers and he is coming back as a starter. Hopefully, his knees will be fine after all the surgery and rehab.

The Titans haven't used a first-round pick on an offensive lineman since selecting T Brad Hopkins in 1993, and G Zach Piller was their last first day selection (in 1999). This year things must change. After releasing T Fred Miller last month, the team is hurting on the right side. Jacob Bell is a candidate to fill in, but he's recovering from knee surgery and played last season at LG. After two seasons as back-up, T Todd Williams still isn't ready. A number of draft eligible players could step in and make an immediate contribution, players like Florida State's Alex Barron, Oklahoma's Jammal Brown or Washington's Khalif Barnes.

Jarrett Payton

Jarrett Payton is going on a European tour in order to join the Amsterdam Admirals. Just recently, Payton left for Tampa Bay in order to begin European Training camp. He is going to try to help the Admirals in the NFLE achieve victory in the World Bowl.

"I'm expecting to come over here and do big things. I want to really show that I can play and help Amsterdam win and go to the World Bowl. That's what I set as my goal before I came over here."

Jacob Bell will be taking on a position for RT Fred Miller, who has become a cap casualty. Bell is a very good player who has great versatility, but he is coping with an ACL injury that should be recovered before season play.

Troy Fleming will also be filling gaps. Fleming will be taking on FB Robert Holcombe’s position and will do so with resourcefulness; being able to turnaround and catch the ball just as well.

Samari Rolle and Andre Dyson, two cornerbacks no longer with the Titans, also will need to be replaced. Andre Woolfolk will be taking on one of the positions. The other will be filled during the draft. We just have to wait and see what happens.

As of now, Tennessee needs all the help they could get. They ended last year being fourth in their division (5-11). Let’s hustle fellas.

Chow announced new Offensive Coordinator

NASHVILLE, TN, Feb. 9, 2005 -- The Tennessee Titans have named Norm Chow as their new offensive coordinator. The highly celebrated Chow joins the Titans after four seasons as offensive coordinator at the University of Southern California and 32 years on the collegiate level.

“This is an important addition to our team,” said Titans head coach Jeff Fisher. “He is one of the most respected offensive minds in the college game and has been for decades. In studying him and his offense, I am certain that his philosophy is consistent with ours and his experience will allow us the opportunity to improve.”

In 32 years of coaching at the collegiate level, Chow has tasted every aspect of success, including three national titles (BYU, 1984; USC, 2003, 2004), tutoring three Heisman Trophy winners (Ty Detmer, Carson Palmer and Matt Leinart), 27 bowl games, and three times being named assistant coach of the year. Amazingly, he has worked with eight of the NCAA’s top 30 career passing efficiency leaders.

Chow has been associated with some of the best quarterbacks and offensive minds in the college and pro ranks. Among the quarterbacks associated with his teams are Pro Football Hall of Famer Steve Young, Jim McMahon, Marc Wilson, Gifford Nielsen, Ty Detmer, Robbie Bosco, Philip Rivers, Carson Palmer and Matt Leinart. He has coached with Mike Holmgren, Andy Reid, Brian Billick, Ted Tollner and Doug Scovil, all of whom have enjoyed a great deal of success at the NFL level.

Chow began his college coaching career at Brigham Young University as a graduate assistant in 1973. He would work on the Cougars’ offensive staff for 27 seasons, including 18 as offensive coordinator, and help them post a 244-91-3 mark during his tenure. In 2000, he left BYU to become offensive coordinator at North Carolina State.

While with the Wolfpack, he helped QB Philip Rivers earn Freshman All-America honors. His final college coaching stop was at the University of Southern California as offensive coordinator from 2001-2004. In four seasons with the Trojans, Chow coached two Heisman Trophy winners and aided a team that won back-to-back national titles.

A native of Hawaii, Chow earned all-conference honors as an offensive lineman at Utah and earned a brief stint with the Saskatchewan Roughriders of the CFL before a knee injury ended his career.

Chow replaces Mike Heimerdinger, who left to become offensive coordinator for the New York Jets in January.

The Tennessee Titans hired Ray Sherman as wide receivers coach Friday.

Sherman spent the last five seasons with the Green Bay Packers. He replaces Steve Walters, who left to join the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Titans coach Jeff Fisher said Walters first agreed to a two-year contract with Tennessee. But the Jaguars offered Walters a chance to rejoin old friend Carl Smith, who was hired as offensive coordinator.

``It's rare when you can give a guy an opportunity like that,'' Fisher said. ``I felt what Steve had given to this program and the type of person he is that he would be deserving of that opportunity. Does that mean each time something like this come up, will I approach it the same way? No.''

Walters told Fisher of his decision Thursday, and Fisher immediately asked Green Bay for permission to talk to Sherman. The men worked together with the San Francisco 49ers in 1992 and 1993.

Fisher said the Titans are finalizing a deal to retain defensive coordinator Jim Schwartz, who interviewed for the head coaching job in San Francisco and had been mentioned as a candidate for openings in Miami and Cleveland.

Hopefully Sherman will be able to spark up Mason and Bennet. But only time will tell, stay fit in the off season Titans, we really need to improve coming into next season. GO TITANS!

The Titans have tried to groom returners in recent years, and it hasn't worked. In 2004 the team finished 32nd in punt return average, and 30th in kick returns. The problem, for the most part, has been the returner.

Rookies Michael Waddell and Troy Fleming, along with Jason McAddley, had opportunities in '04 and either had trouble catching the football or hitting the holes. None of the three had much experience as a returner before doing so with the Titans. The Titans will likely target a quality return man this offseason and add him to the roster in '05.

A season of mis-haps, injuries, and let downs. The Titans finished at 5-11 this year and are left bewildered.
"We won our first game and won our last," said Volek "But it was pretty ugly in between."
Back up quaterback Volek is right, everything in the middle was pretty ugly, their where times I had to turn off the T.V.

Then on top of that, here is some icing on the cake for you, McNair is among one of the veterans on the team that might not be back next year. The list has names like OT Brad Hopkins, OT Fred Miller, DE Kevin Carter, WR Derrick Mason, and even CB Samari Rolle. Of course, this would all be to make room under the salary cap for 05'.

Lets hope what happens next isn't what happened in Niner town.

Plummer's resurgence powers Broncos past Titans

Jake Plummer broke out of his slump with a nearly perfect start and kept the Denver Broncos in the playoff race.

Plummer passed for 303 yards and two touchdowns, and Reuben Droughns scored three TDs as the Broncos beat the Tennessee Titans 37-16 to stay in at least a tie for the AFC's final wild-card slot going into the final week of the season.

Denver (9-6) had lost three of its previous four games with two of those losses to teams with losing records, including a 45-17 rout last week at Kansas City. Plummer hurt Denver more than he helped with nine interceptions and only two touchdowns during that stretch.

Against a defense missing six starters, Plummer was intercepted once, giving him an NFL-high 20 this season. But otherwise, he was superb.

"I'm just happy we got a win. Hey, I can actually say 'Merry Christmas' now and mean it," Plummer said.

The Broncos gave coach Mike Shanahan his 100th career regular-season victory with the franchise by handing his friend, Titans coach Jeff Fisher, his worst home loss in six seasons at The Coliseum. Seeing such a performance from his heavily criticized quarterback didn't hurt either.

"For him to come back and fight the way he did under the circumstances, I was pleased," Shanahan said.

The past month hadn't been easy for Plummer, who struggled both on the field and off, even paying a fine last week for an obscene gesture. He couldn't have started this game much better.

He completed his first eight passes, had a perfect passer rating of 158.3 in the first quarter and was 10-for-11 for 144 yards early in the second. He helped Denver score on its first three possessions for a 17-3 lead. He had a 23-yard TD pass to Droughns on the first drive for a lead the Broncos never relinquished.

Plummer was not sacked and finished 21-for-26.

"It is always good for a quarterback to have confidence, especially after all of the criticism," Denver receiver Ashley Lelie said. "For him to step up and play like he did just shows what type of character he has. We all thank Jake for playing as well as he did."

Denver handed the Titans (4-11) their fifth consecutive loss by shutting down Billy Volek, who was trying to become the first quarterback in NFL history to throw for 400 yards in three consecutive games.

Reggie Hayward had three of the Broncos' six sacks, and the defense also forced two turnovers and limited Tennessee to a season-low 153 yards of offense. The Titans dropped to 1-6 at home this season before a stadium that was nearly empty in the final minutes on the cold Christmas night.

"We wanted to bounce back," Hayward said. "We got embarrassed last week. We wanted to come back with a strong showing against Tennessee."

The Broncos even knocked Volek out of the game in the fourth quarter with a bruised left knee, forcing the Titans to use Doug Johnson for the first time this season, with Steve McNair wearing street clothes on the sideline because of his bruised chest.

Volek was 8 of 20 for 111 yards. X-rays of his knee were negative.

"It's the Bad News Bears this year," Volek said. "I don't know what's going on, but everybody's banged up."

The Broncos held the ball for more than 39 minutes and rolled up 496 yards. Droughns rushed 22 times for 91 yards, scored on a 23-yard pass from Plummer and had TD runs of 8 and 23 yards. Jason Elam kicked field goals of 22, 22 and 30 yards.

"We didn't make enough plays to stay on the field," Titans left tackle Brad Hopkins said. "They controlled the clock. They did everything we were trying to do, which is a rare thing for this football team."

The Titans have given up at least 31 points in each game during this skid, the franchise's longest since an 11-game streak in 1994.

Denver led 24-16 at halftime because Titans linebacker Keith Bulluck picked off Plummer's pass and set up punter Craig Hentrich for a career-long 50-yard field goal as time expired. Gary Anderson also kicked field goals of 44 and 43 yards.

Tennessee, which lost two more starting lineman to injuries, didn't score again.

No Rest for the Defense

The schedule-maker can be cruel sometimes. After chasing the NFL's No. 1 offense last week, the Titans will take on the No. 2 offense when the Chiefs come by for a Monday night matchup. "It is hard to imagine they are 4-8 and yet averaging 28 points a game, but they are," Tennessee coach Jeff Fisher said. Five of the seven defensive linemen who are expected to play are rookies, as is Michael Waddell, who will start in place of injured cornerback Samari Rolle. "Mike's got his hands full, but so does Rich Gardner and the rest of the secondary." Once again, running back Chris Brown is sitting out practice but expected to play. Brown Highlights First Half of Season for Titans

One of the high points for the Titans in the first half of the season has been the production of running back Chris Brown. At the seasons mid-point, Brown ranks second in the NFL in rushing with 810 yards, while ranking second in average yards per carry among full-time running backs.

Brown’s performance has not only surprised football fans around the country, but even Brown himself.

“It’s a real surprise to me that I have done this well,” Brown said. “The offensive line has played with a lot of confidence and that has made it easy on me.”

Brown entered the 2004 season taking over for former Titans star Eddie George. The second-year running back has proven that he fills the shoes well.

“Eddie is a legend around here and I learned a lot from him,” said Brown, who mentored under George his rookie season a year ago. “I have just taken it all in stride. I now need to work on being consistent like Eddie was for so long here.”

So far this season, the only one stopping Brown has been Brown himself. He has struggled through a few nagging injuries, yet still has managed to rank among the NFL rushing leaders.

“The numbers are there and the production is there,” head coach Jeff Fisher said. “We just need to see the consistency week after week. We’ve got to get past the injury things that have caused him to either miss practice time or miss game time.”

Brown did not practice last week due to a turf toe injury suffered at Minnesota, but he still managed to produce an impressive 147-yard, one touchdown performance in a 27-20 Titans victory against Cincinnati on Sunday.

“Everybody in this league is dinged up, but you have to find a way to get out there,” said Brown. “You have to go out there and get it done. I wanted to prove everybody wrong and prove that I can play with pain.”

Brown’s teammates took notice of his heroic effort to sacrifice his body for the betterment of the club.

“I think (Steve) McNair is rubbing off on him,” QB Billy Volek said. “He did a great job. When you have a running back like that and give him the ball he’s going to raise your level of play.”

As the season heads to the back half, Brown plans to prove that his performance is just the beginning of many more good things to come.

“We just finished the first half,” Brown said. “It’s how you finish, not how you start. I’m going to keep working hard and hopefully we can all do well as a team during these last eight regular season games.”

Jags and Colts pin us deep in AFC South

After games with the 2 teams leading the AFC South, it isn't looking too good for us this year. Mcnair bruised his sternum last game against the Chargers when he made a bad scramble for a yard or 2 extra. Although the injury was justified in a sense, we are really struggling this year and with out Mcnair its going to be even harder to make up for 2 straight losses. Aswell as Mcnair, the injury-list is piling up and so far its not looking great. We need to get healed up and make up for our games or else we won't make it to the Superbowl. Lets heal up fast Titans!

Chris Brown, making his first start as Eddie George's replacement, set up a touchdown with a 52-yard run, the Titans' longest since 1998. Brown gained 100 yards in 16 carries but sat out the second half with a sprained left ankle

Although Brown sprained his ankle, I am confident he will continue to pump out great games. And on the upside, Eddie George hasn't been up to his old standards in Dallas either, so maybe it was for the best. Steve Mcnair didn't have one of his greatest throwing games(only 14 passes) but he still played a great game. Lets hope we can keep this up. Although the Dolphins have been pretty weak since the whole Ricki Williams controversy, I am confident that it wasn't just a one time things. Lets get our players back in shape and get out there Titans!

Nails have been chewed away

After the last 2 games being extreme nail-biters, I can't say I am happy after the loss against the Cowboys. Especially since Eddie George had to be one of the "Bad Guys" this time around. Since us Titans Fans were so used to cheering him on. But it doesnt seem he has dwelled on it though...

He still might get a parade someday, and the Titans may even retire his No. 27. But he said Wednesday that he is too busy playing with his new team -- the Dallas Cowboys -- to think about what he calls a business decision.

``I have no animosity toward the organization,'' he said in a conference call with reporters in Tennessee.

Lets hope we can do better against the Packers, and the good news is we have taken a 7-0 lead as of right now. Go Titans!

After winning the game against the Browns last weekend, they surely proved themselves to us, the fans,but now they have to prove themselves to the rest of the country. With the releasing of Eddie George and leaving of Jevon Kearse, it will be a tough void to fill for the Titans.The signing of Antowain Smith may make it a little better but no matter who they pick , they wont be able to fill the experiences that Mr. George had with the team. We are still hoping for something special from Mcnair this year( aside from his superb talent he shows every year) to get us back in the SuperBowl. Lets root for the Titans when they play the Browns today.. GO TITANS!
